Description
This large five ounce pure silver 2016 Two Dollar Big Coin features selective colour which brings the familiar polar bear design to life in a way never seen before. This coin and all others in the series sold out within minutes of release from the RCM, with 2016 Big Coins now extremely difficult to obtain in the secondary market. With a mintage of just 1,500 coins for one of Canada’s premier quality annual proof coins, this is an extremely limited issue with demand significantly greater than the quantity produced. Mintage is limited to 2,500 coins. As a pure silver coin produced by the Royal Canadian Mint, there is no HST or GST applicable on this item.
The Design:
First introduced in 1996, the design features a majestic image of a Canadian polar bear standing on an ice flow.
While a regular two dollar coin has a diameter of 28 mm and a weight of just 6.92 grams in base metal, this two dollar has a diameter of 65 mm and has a weight of 157.6 grams, or over 5 ounces, in pure silver. This is about equal the weight of 22 regular two dollars. The coin is double struck to ensure fine detail and a near flawless surface, while the design is further enhanced with selective colour.
