Description

This $15 pure silver Firefighters coin is the first in a new series that honours our everyday heroes, and pays tribute to and recognizes their valour and dedication.  These men and woman face danger each day in the line of duty, yet remain steadfast in their commitment to helping others. Mintage is limited at 10,000.  The coin has a weight of almost three quarters of an ounce of .9999 fine silver, and a diameter of 36 mm.  As a pure silver coin struck by the Royal Canadian Mint, this item is GST/HST exempt.

The Design:

Canadian artist Ken Ryan captures a firefighter in the line of duty.  The firefighter is seen in complete turnout gear, including a red helmet with visor, a tan coloured jacket with reflective yellow-green and silver trim.  A self-contained breathing apparatus is visible beneath the visor (this apparatus provides breathable air in hostile environments).  He holds a pair of bolt cutters in his right hand and dog he has rescued from inside the building and is carrying to safety in his left hand.
