Description

This large 1 ounce .9999 fine silver five cent coin is the fifth coin in a 6 coin series that honours each of the nickel’s transformations.  The reverse design features the 1967 centennial design which commemorated the 100th anniversary of Confederation.  The obverse design features the second effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Arnold Machin.  Selective gold plating is used to enhance the design on both sides of the coin.

The Design:

The reverse coin design of the hopping rabbit by famed Canadian painter Alex Colville is symbolic of fertility and future growth for Canada. This coin’s 40-mm diameter makes it double the size of the original, allowing for a larger canvas to showcase the intricately detailed design.
