Description

Chinese Lunar symbols have melded into mainstream Canadian culture, and the Royal Canadian Mint has marked the 2015 Year of the Sheep with this $5 pure gold coin containing just over one tenth of an ounce of pure gold. Mintage is limited to 2,888 pieces worldwide.  As a pure gold coin issued by the Royal Canadian Mint, this item is GST/HST exempt.

The Design:

The coin features a depiction of a Bighorn sheep – a native of Canada's Rocky Mountains. A three-quarter profile allows the viewer a look at the sheep's distinctive spiral horn.  The Chinese character yang (meaning "sheep" or "goat") denoting the Year of the Sheep can be seen below the sheep’s shoulder.  A rendering of bamboo fills the background.

Year of the Sheep:

The Sheep personality embodies wealth, warmth and loveliness. They are hopeless romantics, and adore being showered in love and attention.  While many collectors seek every year of issue, these coins also make a great 2015 birth year gift, or a personalized gift for someone born in the Year of the Sheep in 2003, 1991, 1979, 1967, 1955, 1943, or 1931.
