This coin and the recent Bighorn Sheep are the lowest mintage issues, and will likely be the most elusive for future collectors to find. The coin is double struck with the Royal Canadian Mint’s highest quality proof finish, and weighs just over one full ounce of .9999 fine silver. Total mintage of just 6,500 coins. As a pure silver coin issued by the Royal Canadian Mint, this item is HST / GST exempt.
The Design:
The reverse image by Canadian artist Trevor Tennant recreates the colours of an autumn morning in one of western Canada’s many forests. Here, a male and female mule deer have made their way to lower elevations where they have entered a foothills meadow to forage. The early morning light creates a blue cast on the misty scenery, softening the vibrant autumn colours of the surrounding foliage. In the foreground, the buck stands tall and attentive to any sound, turning its head to the left, while a doe follows behind in the background.
The Mule Deer:
As the predominant deer species throughout western Canada and southern portions of the Yukon, the Mule Deer roams the mountains, forests and grasslands in search of the grasses, foliage and lichen that sustain it. This creature of beauty and majestic stature plays a vital role in its ecosystem, but is also admired for its majestic stature.
