Superman™ is one of the iconic images of the 20th century and beyond, and often seen as the greatest superhero ever created. This new DC Comics “Legacy” coin issued by the Royal Canadian Mint is a $10 denomination, dated 2015, featuring selective full colour, and weighs just over half of an ounce of pure silver. Mintage is limited to 30,000 coins. Previous Superman coins have all sold out from the Mint very quickly with most appreciating in value in the secondary market. As a pure silver coin issued by the Royal Canadian Mint, this item is GST/HST exempt.
The Design:
The reverse image mimics a comic book splash page with a coloured and engraved rendition of Superman, flanked by those who helped forge his legacy. The Man of TomorrowTM stands in the center in a calm yet powerful stance; at the bottom on either side are scenes from his infancy, with the Els to the right and the Kents to the left. Also found to his left are his friends and long-time love interest Lois Lane, and his friends and closest ally Batman. On Superman’s right are his pal Jimmy Olsen and Wonder Woman, whose strength and power often rival his own.
The DC Comics Originals series has a classic, slightly retro style, recalling the look most comic book fans grew up with and remember fondly.
