Description

This 2015 beautiful pure silver $10 coloured coin is part of a popular series featuring Canadian ducks.  The coin is double struck with a proof finish, the highest quality produced by the Royal Canadian Mint. The mintage is limited to just 10,000 coins.  As a pure silver coin issued by the Royal Canadian Mint, this item is GST / HST exempt.

The Design:

The design by Canadian artist Denis Mayer Jr. features a coloured male and female Cinnamon Teal in their natural habitat. In the foreground on the right side of the image, the crimson male with his striking red eye and characteristic patch of light blue on his wing-front in a pond near a swimming female. The female, with gray-brown colouring and dark eye stripe, bobs gently in the water just behind the male on the left side of the composition. A water lily and green lily pad float in the foreground. The entire image is reflected in the rippling water.

Cinnamon Teal:
This dabbler duck feeds on aquatic vegetation, invertebrates, and mollusks with their long bills.
Cinnamon teals sometimes interbreed with blue-winged teals.  Female cinnamon teals and blue-winged teals bear such close resemblance that they are difficult to identify even by experienced bird-watchers.
