Description
This stunning specimen set of Canadian coins for 2014 contains a Toonie that boasts a special treat: Eastern Cottontail baby rabbits! One of the most common rabbit species in North America, this “new world” rabbit can usually be spotted in meadows and shrubbery around parts of southern Canada. These baby cottontails, which are born blind, begin to open their eyes in about a week, and are completely independent and dispersed at about 7 weeks.
The Design:
The reverse of the Toonie in this specimen set depicts two young cottontails seen in three-quarter view as they nestle endearingly into the tall grass that envelopes them. This image is captured in exquisite detail by the Royal Canadian Mint; the set in its entirety is a fantastic summary of the standard of their craftsmanship. A cheerful addition to any collection of Canadian coins, this set is also a perfect way to begin collecting the other sets in the young wildlife series.
