Description

From long before she became Queen, Princess Elizabeth started taking on Royal duties. On the morning of her sixteenth birthday, Princess Elizabeth undertook her first inspection of a military regiment during a parade at Windsor Castle. She had been given the role of honorary colonel of the Grenadier Guards, which symbolized her military involvement in the war effort. When Princess Elizabeth turned 18 in 1944, she insisted upon joining the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS), the women’s branch of the British Army.  Following her ascension to the throne, Queen Elizabeth would continue this tradition.  Mintage is limited to 15,000.  GST/HST Exempt.

The Design:

The design on this coin depicts Her Majesty walking past a line of troops in support, regarding them with reverence, appreciation and understanding. This is likely due to her own personal experiences as a princess during World War II.

The reverse of the coin includes the words "CANADA" and "SUPPORTING THE TROOPS/SOUTIEN AUX TROUPES" on an angle around the rim. The text is embellished with ribbons of maple leaves.
