Description
This 2014 $25 pure silver one ounce ultra-high relief coin features an artistic native Canadian Matriarch Moon Mask image. The coin was reproduced from a wooden carving by Haida artist Carol Young. It honours women and their roles as leaders, sages (having or exhibiting wisdom and calm judgment) and guardians of their clan’s history. The coin has an extremely low mintage of just 6,000 coins. HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
The reverse is engraved with the word 'CANADA,' the date '2014,' and the face value of '25 DOLLARS.' The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
First Nations culture is rich with profound wisdom that eloquently expresses the inter-connectedness between humanity and all of nature. The terms “Mother Earth” and “Grandmother Moon” clearly reflect the similarities that First Nations people see between these two spheres and the foundational and nourishing role women play in their communities.
