Description
This $20 pure silver coin is the second coin in the Butterflies of Canada series. It features a red-spotted purple butterfly drinking nectar from a black-eyed Susan flower. The coin weighs just over one ounce of pure silver, and has a limited mintage of just 10,000 pieces. As a pure silver coin struck by the Royal Canadian Mint, this item is HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
The butterfly, engraved and coloured, is viewed from its right side. The viewer is presented with a view of the red-spotted purple's under-wing. Here we see the characteristic dark purple-black colouring, with some of the blue iridescence that characterizes most of the upper side of the delicate wing. The light blue-white markings around the wing contrast with the bright red spots that give this butterfly its name. The butterfly stands on top of a black-eyed Susan flower, drinking nectar from the flower's center.
