Description
This 2014 $20 stunning coin is crafted in dedication to Emily Carr, one of Canada's most treasured artists. One of the initial Canadian practitioners of modernist and post-impressionist painting style, Carr began her artistic career with a focus on aboriginal imagery and themes; later in her life, after meeting and corresponding with members of the Group of Seven, her focus shifted to landscapes. She did not receive much recognition for her work until this point in her career. A limited mintage of only 6,000 coins makes this an excellent opportunity for collectors, as well as a thoughtful and beautiful gift for any lover of Canadian art history. HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
Her special attention to forest scenes and First Nations imagery is honoured here, as the reverse image of this one-ounce 99.99% pure silver coin depicts her 1930 oil painting, Totem Forest. The image shows a hyper-detailed row of massive, intricately carved Northwest coast totem poles. Behind the poles, which dominate the central portion of the detail, a mountain rises in sweeping brushstrokes to a darkening sky.
