Description

This 2014 $20 proof silver coin commemorates the 75th anniversary of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, and features a full colour rendition of a photograph by dance photographer David Cooper. Although the coin has just been released, it was first unveiled in May during the Royal Visit of Prince Charles and Camilla.  The coin was officially unveiled by Camilla, and she was presented with the first coin to be released. The mintage of this popular coin is just 7,500.

The Design:

This coin has been widely acclaimed for its beautiful artistry.  The coin features an engraved rendition of a photograph from one Canada’s top dance photographers, David Cooper. The image is of six dancers from the Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s production of The Sleeping Beauty. Using “sheer effect” colour, the engraving vibrantly highlights the traditional tutus of the dancers.

This coin comes in a customized case that is also a music box. When the case is opened, Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty (Valse) plays.

The coin weighs just over one ounce of pure silver.  As a pure silver coin struck by the Royal Canadian Mint, this item is HST/GST exempt.
