Description

Canada is full of animal species that are distinctly and recognizably Canadian, and the Rocky Mountain Bighorn sheep is one of the most iconic. This coin, struck in 99.99% fine silver, is the fourth in the $100 for $100 series of coins by the Royal Canadian Mint.

The Design:

This one-ounce coin depicts two powerful Bighorn rams about to clash horns in a Rocky Mountain setting. Horn-clashing tends to ensue between rams as a method of settling on a hierarchy of dominance to determine access to female Bighorn sheep (ewes). The rams will charge at one another furiously, smashing their horns together with a ferocity that can be heard echoing through the Rockies from over a kilometre away. These Bighorn sheep, which enjoy cooler, more rugged and mountainous regions of Canada, are thought to be excellent indicators of land health, as they are susceptible to most human-caused environmental problems. The coin boasts an incredible level of dimensionality, as the horns and musculature of the sheep are brought to life-like prominence by the exceptional craftsmanship and technique of the engravers at the Royal Canadian Mint. This high-denomination coin features a 40mm diameter, and is presented in a stunning matte-proof finish. This is an affordable and unique way to start (or add to) a collection of fine silver coins.
