Description
A dynamic image of one of Canada's most reclusive, massive, and iconic land mammals in its natural environment rendered through dramatic artistry in the Royal Canadian Mint's stunning 99.99% pure silver. A high-denomination coin whose limited mintage of 50,000 coins and great pricing mean that it is sure to be sought after by collectors.
The Design:
The reverse image by Canadian artist Claudio D'Angelo portrays a massive grizzly bear splashing dynamically through a remote river, having just caught a salmon in its mouth. Presented from the front with its vast head turned to the left side of the coin, the image highlights the large bear's extremely long front claws and the large musculature of its chest and shoulders. Its platter-sized front paws slap at the churning water as its entire body pounces with graceful strength. Its thick, wet, shaggy fur and colour gradations are beautifully rendered by careful engraving. In the background, a conifer-lined rocky shore gives way to vast mountains on the horizon, above which rises a heavily clouded sky.
