2012 marked the 200th anniversary of the start of the War of 1812, and this important theme appeared on several coin sets from the Royal Canadian Mint. This collection includes superb double struck proof quality examples of eight different coins for 2012, including the last cent issue ever, 5¢, 10¢, 25¢, 50¢ $1 and $2 with regular designs, plus a 99.99% pure silver Proof Dollar. Intricate detailing on the proof dollar depicts a British sergeant, a Voltigeur Canadian, and an Iroquois warrior in historically accurate uniform approaching the invader with unity of purpose to defend the border and colonies they represent. Encircling the design of the Proof Dollar are 200 finely struck beads symbolizing the 200th Anniversary of the War of 1812.

HMS Shannon- $2 coin
On June 1, 1813, the HMS Shannon defeated the USS Chesapeake in an 11-minute battle. The capture of the Chesapeake marked a decisive naval victory at a time when morale was waning.
Laura Secord- 25-cent coloured coin
Overhearing plans of an American invasion, Laura Secord walked 30 kilometers through forest and swamp, warning the British troops and their native allies, helping stop the Americans.
Tecumseh- 25-cent coloured coin
Shawnee warrior, Tecumseh, united his native allies to fight alongside the British at the Battle of Fort Detroit. By making his army appear larger than it was, he helped take the city from the Americans.
Sir Isaac Brock- 25-cent coloured coin
Major-General Sir Isaac Brock fell as he bravely led the charge to take back Queenston Heights. Remembered as the Hero of Upper Canada, his death inspired a people to fight back
Charles-Michel de Salaberry- 25-cent coloured coin
Charles-Michel de Salaberry recruited the men of Lower Canada, training them as the Voltigeurs Canadiens. Under his command, the Voltigeurs prevented the Americans from taking Montréal—twice.
