Description
This 2013 huge silver coin has a diameter of more than 10 cm (4 inches), and weighs one full kilogram – 32.15 ounces of .9999 pure silver. The nominal face value is $250, making this one of the highest face value silver coin ever produced in Canada. With this oversized precious metal canvas, the Royal Canadian Mint has created a beautiful work of art with a high intrinsic value and an extremely low mintage of just 500 coins. The coin is double or triple struck with a frosted cameo proof finish, the highest quality produced anywhere. HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
This coin features a male and female caribou standing together, set against the backdrop of the Canadian Arctic. The large male stands with his front left leg lifted. His antlers presented with his neck and large head lowered slightly. Behind him a female caribou looks across the broad river, her head and antlers rising through the centre of the image. In the background, the river flows toward the horizon, bisected by an island; and further beyond rise foothills that give way to jagged mountains. The reverse is also engraved with the word "CANADA."
