Description
Based on its initial collector response, the 2013 “O Canada” coin series is likely to be one of the most sought after and difficult to obtain modern collections from the Royal Canadian Mint. Subscriptions for all twelve coins sold out from the Mint almost immediately, and single coins can be extremely difficult to find. This is the fourth coin in the new 12 coin series celebrating our national identity and featuring some of Canada’s most popular images and icons. Total mintage for each is limited to 40,000. HST/GST exempt.
This is the highest quality produced by the Royal Canadian Mint, double struck in pure silver with a near flawless matte proof finish and a weight of just over half an ounce. This item is for the one coin only, with no additional coins to follow in the subscription series.
The Design:
A symbol of the power and vastness of our nation’s northern landscape, the polar bear is king of the Canadian Arctic. And no wonder: not only is Canada home to the largest polar bear population on earth, but this massive beast has the ability to survive and thrive amid our country’s harshest climates. This coin showcases the beauty of the polar bear and its icy Arctic surroundings. The design shows a polar bear perched patiently on the edge of an Arctic ice floe, waiting for the exact moment to strike and seize its prey. The outer band features the word "CANADA," the date "2013," and the face value of "10 DOLLARS," as well as a bear paw print at the left side.
The polar bear has been one of the most popular themes to appear on Canadian coins. First appearing on a silver dollar in 1980, this dollar coin became sought after around the world with dealers buying the coins back from collectors at more than double the original issue price. The new “O Canada” $10 coin is likely to be extremely popular around the world as well as in Canada.
