This 2012 1/25th ounce pure gold coin celebrates the 150th anniversary of the Cariboo gold rush.  In 1861, prospectors arrived in colonial British Columbia. The Cariboo gold rush was intense and short lived, delivering unimaginable wealth for the time to those that were lucky enough to “strike it rich” through 1862 and 1863. Mintage 12,000. HST/GST exempt.


The Design:

The design on this proof quality pure gold coin depicts the simple and iconic image that inspired gold fever throughout the 1860s: a tin pan just lifted from the river’s waters filled with nuggets and the dust of gold.  The coin weighs 1/25 of an ounce and has a nominal face value of 50 cents.
