Description

This 2012 $5 coin pays tribute to Rick Hansen, and marks the 25th anniversary of his “Man in Motion” tour.  Hansen propelled his wheelchair across 34 countries on 4 continents with raised $26 million for Spinal Cord Injury Research, and inspired people around the world to believe in their own potential regardless of circumstance. The Tour’s legacy has been far-reaching, heightening awareness and initiating new policies, codes, and legislation aimed at removing barriers for people with disabilities. Mintage 7,500. HST/GST exempt.

The Design:

The majority of the field of this fine silver coin is filled with finely engraved lines that visually represent the new paths Hansen laid to cut through the limiting perceptions of physical disability, and the words that represent his key principles: “journey, inspire, dream, together, involvement,” and, of course, “anything is possible.” The coin design was personally selected and approved by Rick Hansen himself.
