Description

When the first Grey Cup tournament was played in Toronto in 1909 before 3800 spectators, few could foresee that one day the championship would be watched, celebrated, and obsessed over by millions. The year 2012 marks the 100th Grey Cup tournament, a game celebrated by a 9-day festival in Toronto, Ontario. Mintage is limited to 10,000 coins. HST/GST exempt.

The Design:

This Limited Edition Silver Dollar is certified to be of 99.99% pure silver, with a diameter of 36 millimetres and a weight of 23.17 grams. The reverse design by Canadian artist Filip Mroz centres around a stylized Grey Cup trophy mounted on the large base upon which winning teams’ names, management, and players are recorded. The silver cup’s graceful proportions and silver sheen are rendered to lovely effect through exceptional engraving in the polished silver field against which the cup is set. The background of the central field is engraved with a detail of the text that appears on the Grey Cup itself, in the the same gothic text. This detail includes the dedicatory words, “Presented By His Excellency Earl Grey” and “Amateur Rugby Football Championship of Canada.”
