Description

This 2011 $10 fine silver coin features a stylized image of the Wood Bison that once dominated the western plains. It was a critical source of food and materials for First Nations communities that virtually collapsed when over-hunting by Europeans decimated bison populations. Conservation efforts have begun to re-establish bison populations, but they remain far below their former million-mark. Mintage is 10,000 coins. HST/GST exempt.

The Design:

Celebrated First Nation’s artist Corrine Hunt has brought her distinctive vision of traditional Kwakwaka’wakw and Tlingit forms to create these special-edition collectibles. The design is intended to be visual poetry that presents the time-honoured traditions of conservation and respect with powerful lines and well-honed economy in composition.
