Description

This 2010 sterling silver $8 proof coin is the fourth coin in the Eight Dollars, The Shape of Trade in Ancient China series. The horse is the seventh sign in the Chinese zodiac and a significant status symbol, often portrayed in figurines found buried with important figures in Chinese history. In Chinese culture, the horse is a token figure of strength. Mintage limited to 8,888.

The Design:

The reverse design on depicts 5 horses around the center, interspersed between decorative floral designs. In the center of the coin is a "hologram" with a shimmering maple leaf.

The character symbol for strength is "li" brings the blessing of the horse's powerful attribute. It seems that the horse has a natural association with this symbol, because its shape bears a likeness to a plough and plough share used as farming implement.
