This 2010 Gold and Silver Maple Leaf Piedfort set is precision-crafted in 99.99% pure gold and 99.99% pure silver, with twice the thickness of standard coins and features the distinct reverse-proof finish.  This set marks The Royal Canadian Mint's first-ever gold piedfort coin and first-ever Silver Maple Leaf coin in a piedfort format.

The word "piedfort" literally means "strong foot" in French and appeared centuries ago to mean "heavy measure" in minting. Today, "piedfort" indicates that a coin is thicker than usual.
