Canada Remembers

This set of six medallions were produced by the Royal Canadian Mint in partnership with the Canadian Battle of Normandy Foundation to honor Canada’s vital contributions to freedom during the Second World War. Canadians served with distinction across land, sea, and air, as well as on the home front. By the war's conclusion in September 1945, more than one million Canadian men and women had served in the military and merchant marine, and 45,607 had made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

The Designs
Each medallion features a detailed vignette from a painting selected from the Canadian War Museum's collection. Created by Canadian artists, these masterpieces depict pivotal chapters of the war: the Battle of Britain, the Battle of the Atlantic, the Sicily and Italy Campaigns, the Battle of Normandy, the Liberation of the Netherlands, and the Far East Campaign.
