Georgian Bay Islands
Located in southern Georgian Bay on the edge of the Canadian Shield, the park serves as a unique transitional zone where northern boreal forests blend into southern hardwood forests. Carved by ancient glaciers during the last Ice Age, the scraped terrain leaves some of Earth's oldest rock exposed to the elements. Despite the rugged conditions, plant life thrives in soil-filled crevices. Mosses and hardy grasses lead the way, blossoming into rich biodiversity further inland. This region's landscape of rock outcrops and windswept pines are immortalized in paintings by Canada’s Group of Seven.
