Description
While the voyageur design introduced on Canada’s silver dollar in 1935 has appeared on dollar coins for more than 50 years (up to 1987), this is the first time the design has been used on a gold coin, and the first time it has appeared on a 50 cent denomination.
The original design by Canadian sculptor Emanuel Hahn reflects the history of Canada's voyageurs and Native Peoples who braved the wilderness in the country's early years.
