Description
Also known as the Prairie Lily, the Western Red Lily was once abundant from Ontario to British Columbia. Unfortunately, urban development has claimed the meadows, thickets and semi-wooded areas where this flower thrives. Its large, flaming blooms often prove irresistible and those who pick them rob this plant of the nutrients it needs to bloom the following year. A protected species, the Western Red Lily was adopted as Saskatchewan's floral emblem in 1941.
