Description
This Five Pound coin commemorates the centenary of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother's birth. Born in 1900, Elizabeth Angela Marguerite Bowes-Lyon married the future King George VI in 1923. She served as Queen of the United Kingdom from his accession in 1936 until her daughter, Elizabeth II, ascended to the throne following her father's death in 1952. Widowed, the elder Queen Elizabeth was affectionately known as the ‘Queen Mother’ or ‘Queen Mum’, remaining widely beloved as the matriarch of the British royal family. This Crown coin is part of a series honoring her lifelong dedication, featuring a unique portrait by sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley, depicting cheering crowds celebrating the milestones of her remarkable life. It is complemented by a bust of her daughter, Her Majesty the Queen, also sculpted by Ian Rank-Broadley.
