Description
Issued by the Royal Canadian Mint in 1999, this commemorative 25-cent sterling silver coin features a design from the special Millennium Series.
In April 1998 the RCM launched a nationwide design competition, inviting Canadians to create twenty-four unique quarters for each month of 1999 and 2000. While the 1999 coins reflected on Canada’s rich history, the 2000 collection turned its gaze toward the future.
December: This is Canada
Designed by J. L. Pierre Provencher and entitled "This is Canada," this coin features a wheel with 13 gear teeth representing Canada's provinces and territories. The central design celebrates the nation's rich diversity, showcasing wheat fields, forests, mountains, native dwellings, and modern cities. It is framed by the inscription "CANADA" and the bilingual date "DECEMBER 1999 DÉCEMBRE."
