Description
Issued by the Royal Canadian Mint in 1999, this commemorative 25-cent sterling silver coin features a design from the special Millennium Series.
In April 1998 the RCM launched a nationwide design competition, inviting Canadians to create twenty-four unique quarters for each month of 1999 and 2000. While the 1999 coins reflected on Canada’s rich history, the 2000 collection turned its gaze toward the future.
October: A Tribute to the First Nation
Designed by James Edward Read and titled "A Tribute to the First Nation," this coin honors Canada's Indigenous peoples. The design features an eagle, a bear, and a killer whale, symbolizing the beauty of the sky, land, and water. The artwork is framed by the inscription "CANADA" and the bilingual date "OCTOBER 1999 OCTOBRE."
