Issued by the Royal Canadian Mint in 1999, this commemorative 25-cent sterling silver coin features a design from the special Millennium Series.
In April 1998 the RCM launched a nationwide design competition, inviting Canadians to create twenty-four unique quarters for each month of 1999 and 2000. While the 1999 coins reflected on Canada’s rich history, the 2000 collection turned its gaze toward the future.
May: The Voyageurs
Designed by Serhii Minenok, this coin depicts the intrepid travelers who journeyed across Canada's river networks, opening up new territories for exploration and trade. The artwork is encircled by the text "CANADA" and the bilingual date "MAY 1999 MAI."
