Issued by the Royal Canadian Mint in 1999, this commemorative 25-cent sterling silver coin features a design from the special Millennium Series.
In April 1998 the RCM launched a nationwide design competition, inviting Canadians to create twenty-four unique quarters for each month of 1999 and 2000. While the 1999 coins reflected on Canada’s rich history, the 2000 collection turned its gaze toward the future.
April: Our Northern Heritage
Titled "Our Northern Heritage," this coin design by Ken Ojnak Ashevac captures Arctic symbolism through an Inuit engraving. It features an owl, a traditional symbol of wisdom, alongside a bear representing power and blessing. The border displays the word "CANADA" paired with the bilingual date "APRIL 1999 AVRIL."
