In celebration of Canada’s 125th Anniversary of Confederation twelve distinct 25-cent coins were released monthly, each paying tribute to a different province or territory.

Ontario’s quarter depicts two resilient Jack pines amidst the rocky, glacier-sculpted terrain characteristic of the province's rugged wilderness. Canada's most populous and second-largest province, Ontario was among the founding four provinces that established the Dominion of Canada on July 1, 1867.
