Description

In February 1979, the Government of Canada authorized the Royal Canadian Mint to establish a special coin program and, on September 5, 1979, the Gold Maple Leaf was introduced. This set of three commemorative proof coins celebrates the 10th anniversary of the Maple Leaf's entry into the market.

The design of the reverse by artist Walter Ott depicts a Canadian maple leaf with the inscription "Canada" at the top. The purity for each coin is shown on either side of the leaf while the metal and the weight appear at the bottom of the coin. The obverse features the effigy of the Queen and the legend "Elizabeth II" at the top. The nominal value and the date are inscribed at the bottom.

This Gold Maple Leaf coin is 0.9999 pure, contains 1/10 ounce of fine gold, weights 3.131 grams and measures 16mm in diameter. The Platinum Maple Leaf coin is 0.9995 pure, contains 1/10 ounce of fine platinum, weighs 3.132 grams and measures 16mm in diameter. The Silver Maple Leaf coin is 0.9999 pure, contains 1 ounce of fine silver, weighs 31.390 grams and measures 38mm in diameter.
