Description
On June 6, 1944, 14,000 Canadian soldiers stormed Juno Beach. Facing fierce resistance, they successfully established a crucial beachhead, securing St-Aubin, Courseulles, and Bernières. Remarkably, one Canadian regiment advanced 15 km (9.3 mi) inland—the only Allied unit to reach its final objective on D-Day.
You can honor the courage of Canada’s heroes with the 2004 60th Anniversary of D-Day 5-cent coin and medallion set.
The Commemorative Set Includes:
-
A 5-cent sterling silver coin
-
An exclusive bronze medallion
-
An audio CD packed with highlights of the Canadian events leading up to the invasion.
The 5-Cent Coin
The 5-cent sterling silver coin is a stunning replica of the wartime tombac 5-cent coin, which replaced traditional nickel during the conflict. It features Winston Churchill's iconic "V for Victory" alongside a blazing torch, while international code along the rim spells out: "We Win When We Work Willingly."
The Commemorative Medallion
The bronze medallion features the same D-Day design, paired with the historic wartime effigy of His Majesty King George VI—the celebrated monarch who stood firmly alongside Churchill by refusing to leave Buckingham Palace.
