Issued by the Royal Canadian Mint in 2000, this sterling silver commemorative 25-cent coin is a piece from the special Millennium Series. 

In April 1998 the RCM launched a nationwide design competition, inviting Canadians to create twenty-four unique quarters for each month of 1999 and 2000. While the 1999 coins reflected on Canada’s rich history, the 2000 collection turned its gaze toward the future.

Designed by Randy Trantau, this coin celebrates the environment with a design representing clean air, fresh water, healthy wildlife, and thriving forests. Framing this tribute to the wilderness are the bilingual inscriptions "CANADA" and "NATURAL LEGACY 2000 PATRIMOINE NATUREL."
