Description
This coin features Stanley Cup winning goaltender Glenn Hall of the Chicago Black Hawks® in the “butterfly” position he made famous during his NHL® career. It is part of the new $10 fine silver series of legendary great goaltenders from the Original SixTM hockey teams, where goalies played with passion and a rugged determination in an era when there was little protective equipment. Each of the Canadian-born net-minder brought their own style of play and made some of pro hockey’s most memorable saves, and helped shape modern goaltending. The coin contains just over half an ounce of fine silver and has a limited mintage of 8,000 coins. HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
The reverse design features a portrait of the goaltender in his days of playing for the Chicago Blackhawks. The maskless Hall is in the “butterfly” position he made famous, with his pads splayed against the ice and knees kept close together to protect the net’s bottom corners; keeping his trapper low, Hall’s gaze is fixed downward on the play as he protects the “five-hole” by positioning the blade of his stick in front of his knees.
