Description

This coin reproduces a coin design that was used in early Canada and is closely associated with one of Canada's most famous shipwrecks. In October of 1761 the sailing ship the Auguste departed from New France (Now Quebec) after the British capture of Montreal. The ship was carrying aristocratic passengers and all of their accumulated wealth. A storm caused the ship to run aground near Cape Breton Island and all of the treasure was lost to the sea, until 1977, when part of the cargo was recovered. This coin, struck in .9999 fine gold, weighs 1/20th of a troy ounce and comes with a maroon leatherette box and certificate of authenticity.
