Description

As the sixth release in the Royal Canadian Mint's Butterfly series, this striking coin features a vibrant hologram of the Silvery Blue (Glaucopsyche lygdamus). While roughly a dozen subspecies exist, only the subspecies couperi is native to Canada. Found in every province and territory as far north as Tuktoyaktuk, N.W.T., it remains a rare sight in southwestern Ontario. A single generation emerges each year, flying from early May to July in the south, and mid-June to mid-August across Newfoundland and the north.

With its shimmering blue wings, the Silvery Blue is sure to captivate collectors and nature lovers alike. The wing edges carry a dark grey border that is typically wider on females, sometimes brushing the entire wing with a silver-grey tint. Beneath, the underside displays a neat row of black, white-rimmed spots against a cool grey backdrop. Elevate your collection today with this exquisite 50c sterling silver holographic coin.
