Description
Between 2000 and 2003 the Royal Canadian Mint celebrated Canada's 20th-century transport innovations with the Land, Sea, and Rail Transportation Coin Series. Each year featured one coin each for Land (car), Sea (ship), and Rail (train).
The eighth coin in the series honors the William Lawrence. This $20 special-edition sterling silver coin is designed with a holographic cameo.
The William D. Lawrence
The William D. Lawrence was the largest ship ever built in the Maritimes, spanning 262 feet in length and displacing 2,458 tons. Remarkably, this huge three-masted square-rigger reached speeds of 14 knots while handling with the agility of a yacht.
