Between 2000 and 2003 the Royal Canadian Mint celebrated Canada's 20th-century transport innovations with the Land, Sea, and Rail Transportation Coin Series. Each year featured one coin each for Land (car), Sea (ship), and Rail (train).

The nineth coin in the series honors the D10 locomotive. This $20 special-edition sterling silver coin is designed with a holographic cameo.

The D10 Locomotive

To keep pace with Canada’s rapidly expanding population and booming trade, Canadian Pacific turned to the dependable "Ten-Wheeler" D10 locomotive. Engine No. 926 exemplifies this workhorse class, which served as the backbone of the railway system from 1905 all the way through World War II.
