Description

Released in 1991, this $20 sterling silver coin is the fourth release in Canada's acclaimed ten-coin series, Powered Flight in Canada: The First 50 Years. Celebrate Canada's aviation heroes and their groundbreaking achievements.

This piece honors the legendary de Havilland Beaver and Phillip C. Garratt, whose foresight led to de Havilland's construction of the Beaver.

The Design

The reverse features the de Havilland Beaver along with a 24-karat gold plated cameo portrait of Phillip C. Garratt. The obverse features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Dora de Pédery-Hunt.

The De Havilland Beaver

First flown in 1947, the Beaver was meticulously engineered by de Havilland Aircraft of Canada to meet the rugged demands of bush pilots. Thanks to its simple, all-metal construction and exceptional Short Takeoff and Landing (STOL) capabilities, it became the ultimate utility transport. The Beaver thrives in everything from military operations to agricultural work across polar and tropical climates alike. Today, it remains the most produced Canadian aircraft design in history, still serving civil and military roles in over 60 countries.
