Description
Produced under the Province of Canada, this 1859 one cent piece represents the Wide 9/8 variety, where a wide 9 punch was implemented to alter the second 8 of the reverse date. A rare coin found in MS-63 condition, this particular example maintains beautiful original mint lustre with only a slightly darker toning overall. The well punched design exhibits precise detail throughout the monarch portrait of Queen Victoria, highlighting the defined details of her sweeping hair and laurel crown. The reverse maple leaf wreath showcases the beautiful design of L.C. Wyon through its intricate features. With only 5 examples graded higher by ICCS, this is a fantastic coin with great appeal, and a wonderful addition to any collection (1/13).
